Are you an aspiring film director? And you want to really make it in Film productions. Then here is what you need to build up your backbone in film making.
Are you puzzled when more and more Film directors, Sound Mixers, Key Grips, Costume supervisor, Props Master etc. Become as Line Producers, UPM's or Producers for hire and there are no new crews that reach the level as a Department head? And why film school students have a hard time in finding work?
I am very sure that there is really a reason behind it but let us take a moment to really think of what that reason is. Well it cannot be incompetence because film students who have been low witted and have been incompetent have already dispread from the start. And Film students who have graduate have proven that they are pretty smart and it's not a lack of drive either. The biggest barrier that prevents film students to move forward is the lack of opportunities. The given statement may be true and may be not true.
The biggest obstacle film makers have to face it to make the opportunity.
As a Film director, department head, Line Producer or even a UPM with a small independent production get themselves from having a contract? A lot of Film student graduates are ready to explode ideas for their scripts to get into production. But what is really needed to get their scripts into productions?
First of all the first person in front of them must believe that they can do it in Film productions and that their sphere of works can be controlled effectively and can be used to create their vision.
If you are already a professional working in a film, you can convince someone easily that you can control everything in your area of expertise. But in order for you to move forward, you must know and understand other factors as well. Like how your department connects with other aspects of film production. You don't just convince one person but you must convince others that you all have the same interest and goals in film production. Other factors also affect how you are going to be in film productions, no one denies that creativity is essential in making films but the most powerful force behind producing films is MONEY.
By the time working crews, like us, starts to work on film productions, our creativity really depends on the amount of money we have in hand. We all want to get the best product we can in every amount of money we have in our pockets. Face the truth the beauty and the quality of your work in film productions is calculated by the amount of money you have and by how excellent you are in controlling it.
You must learn to control your money In order for you to get the upgrade. You have to show them that they you can give them, with attitude, the controlled environment they want to create their vision. By doing this you must know and understand fully how to control and budget your money.
You must learn the lingo about budgets; inspire the bonding company, or the financiers for you to know what the weekly financial report card is all about. All these, have to be learned and practice for you to really make it in film productions.
